This Fourth of July, Adopt a Pet
A Patch preview of available pets the Parsippany Animal Shelter will show before the fireworks
Update: From Parsippany.net, tonight's planned pet adoption event has been postponed. It will be rescheduled in the near future.
Attention, Parsippany animal lovers: There will be fur before the July 4 fireworks at Parsippany Hills High School. Â
The Parsippany Animal Shelter will hold a special Independence Day adoption event at the school. Â Dogs and cats will be there hoping to find a new family beginning at 6 p.m., but will be whisked away before the fireworks, so that they are not disturbed by the festivities.

Patch has a sneak preview of many of the cuddly companions in our photo gallery. Â All we can suggest is that you avert your eyes, since the cute factor is exceptionally high. Â Resistance is futile.
This event is a first for the shelter, a new approach to try and boost adoptions.
“People are not coming in to adopt animals due to the sagging economy," said Animal Control Officer Chris Dikovic. "This summer, more than other summers, we are overloaded with animals--especially cats."

Dikovic added that Parsippany wants to keep costs down in order to make pet adoptions affordable. Â The adoption fee for a dog is $60, while a cat can be adopted for $35. Â Costs include neutering and shots.
Donations for the shelter will be accepted at the July 4 event.  This includes money as well as needed supplies, including  laundry detergent, dish soap, dryer sheets and bleach.
