PARSIPPANY, NJ - A 35-year-old woman was ticketed for careless driving after driving her SUV, with two children inside, into Lake Parsippany Saturday night, according to the Parsippany Police Department.

Police were dispatched to Lake Shore Drive shortly after 7 p.m. when the Police Department’s Communication Center received a call that a vehicle had driven off the roadway and into Lake Parsippany near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Alpine Road.

Responding officers found a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, driven by a woman from Lake Hiawatha, had driven off the roadway and into Lake Parsippany. The driver and two children who were passengers were not injured and had already gotten free of the car when officers arrived on scene, police said.

The woman told Patrolman Daniel Ross that while her car was was traveling East on Lake Shore Drive she drove off the roadway while attempting to adjust the vehicles GPS, police said.

The vehicle was removed from the water by Powder Mill Towing. Authorities did not release the name of the driver.
