4th Of July Celebrations Planned At Princeton Battlefield Society

A flag-raising ceremony, reading of the Declaration of Independence, tours, and more are planned for the day.

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) will be celebrating America’s 246th Independence Day on Sunday, July 4, 12 p.m. onwards.

The program will begin with remarks by PBS President Michael Russell, followed by a flag-raising ceremony, with vocal accompaniment by Krista Hastings, a soloist and graduate of Westminster Choir College.

Command Sergeant Major John Zimmerman of the Army 99th Readiness Group, Fort Dix, will speak on the War of Independence, the Battle of Princeton (including his ancestor’s service) and the importance of the Armed Forces in contemporary America.

Will Krakower, the Princeton Battlefield Historical Educator, will then read the Declaration of Independence, and the ceremony will end with songs by Hastings and final remarks by Russell.

Visitors interested in a guided tour of the Battlefield can do so before or after the ceremony. The 10:30 a.m. tur will be led by Larry Kidder, author of “Revolutionary Princeton.”

Another tour is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. and it will be led by Roger Williams, an expert on the “Ten Crucial Days” Campaign and the Battle of Princeton.
