Delizioso Bakery + Kitchen Brings Baked Italian Fare To Princeton

The new eatery sells freshly baked goods, serves breakfast, lunch, and pizzas.

PRINCETON, NJ — A new eatery specializing in Italian fare and specialty foods opened in Princeton. Delizioso Bakery + Kitchen is the latest addition to Princeton’s restaurant map and celebrated its grand opening last week. “We opened around mid-May and ours is a bakery plus kitchen,” said Giuliana Guzzo, owner, and marketing manager. “That means we sell baked goods, serve breakfast, lunch, and pizzas.”

The eatery is the brainchild of Guiliana, husband Ralph and Eric Weshner, a retired New York City detective. The Guzzos first had a restaurant business in Staten Island. Ralph’s family ran two bakeries, and that’s where he developed his passion for food.

“My husband was around a bakery his whole life. That’s where he learned and developed his passion,” said Giuliana . They met the Weshner family through their daughter and soon became friends, deciding to go into business together.

Plans to open the eatery were in the works for a long time. They planned to open in 2020 but the pandemic delayed much of that. “The pandemic has been a struggle. We planned to open last year but faced permit pushback etc.,” said Giuliana.

The owners decided to bring their business to Princeton because it’s a “close-knit community,” said Giuliana. “Princeton is a small, close-knit community. You see people walking, biking... a want to build a relationship here, to the point that we know our patrons on a first-name basis,” said Giuliana. They plan to open in Jersey City soon.

The morning begins at 5 a.m. for Ralph who begins baking fresh goodies for the day. “All the food is fresh and made on-site,” said Giuliana. For breakfast, there is Delizioso Omelette, Avocado Toast, Delizioso's Favorite Pancakes with a choice of Nutella, cannoli or plain, French Toast, and more. Lunch can be hearty with an array of sandwiches like Open-Faced Blueberry Sandwich, Turkey Bliss Sandwich, Roastlicious Sandwich, The Smash Sandwich, and more.

Those in the mood for something lighter, check out their salads, which include the Mediterranean style Chickpea Salad and Arugula Salad.

Patrons can also sample a slice of their Roman pizzas priced at $5.95 per slice. The bakery also has baked goods like croissants, cupcakes, cannoli, specialty doughnuts, and lots more. They offer catering services and their food is available to order of DoorDash and Grubhub.

With most of Princeton being vaccinated and people out and about this summer, Giuliana expects people to stop by more often. “We've gotten to know a lot of people, including the Mayor and council members. We want to grow in the community and create bonds. We hope the community supports us.”

Delizioso Bakery + Kitchen is located at 205 Witherspoon St, Princeton. They are open Mondays to Saturdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends until 4 p.m. You can check out their menu on the website. Click here.
