East Brunswick Schools Sue Therapist For False Billing
Therapist Rebecca Dean billed the school district for more than $200,000 in unrendered services, according to a lawsuit.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick Public Schools have sued a pediatric therapist for overbilling the district for more than $200,000 in unrendered services.
Rebecca Dean of Martinsville who was president of Tiny Tots Therapy, now known as United Therapy Solutions, signed a contract with the school district in 2008 to provide therapy services to students, according to a lawsuit filed on April 26.
From 2008 through 2017, Dean submitted invoices detailing the service provided, which the school district paid, said the lawsuit.

In 2018, Dean became a subject of an investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office after it was found she allegedly submitted more than $75,000 in false invoices to Edison Public Schools, according to the court records.
In January 2018, Dean was arrested and charged with theft by deception in the second degree and money laundering in the second degree as a result of the investigation. She is scheduled to go to trial on May 17, according to court records.

This investigation triggered an audit by the East Brunswick School District, and it was revealed that Dean submitted invoices “for services that were never rendered,” said court documents.
The lawsuit accuses Dean with fraud, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and breach of good faith and fair dealing.
The school district is seeking “compensatory damages, including economic damages, interest, punitive damages, treble damages, attorneys’ fees, cost of suit, and such equitable and other relief.”
Others named in the lawsuit are Marwa Abdelbary, a Co-Founder; Dana Sealander, Director of Operations; and Marie Fein, President, United Therapy Solutions.
