Five Can't Miss Events in Princeton This Week

There's always something cool to do in Princeton!

Monday

Princeton University will present a panel "'I Didn't Do It":  A Conversation about Wrongful Convictions," that will explore how advocates, attorneys and journalists spotlight judicial abuses and work to free the innocent. The panel moderator is Mike McGraw, a fall-term Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton and  a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter. He will be joined by Kate Germond, director of Princeton-based Centurion Ministries, which has freed 53 wrongfully convicted individuals in the last 30 years; Mark Schand, a recent exoneree who served 27 years in prison before being released; and John Jay College of Criminal Justice lecturer Eugene O'Donnell, a former law enforcement officer and prosecutor. McCormick Hall, Room 101, 7:30 p.m. 


Tuesday

Beginning today and continuing through Friday, you're invited to volunteer at Morven Museum's Carriage House to decorate wreaths and construct kissing balls. The items will be sold during Morven's Festival of Trees and all proceeds will benefit the museum. Anyone over 13 years old is welcome. Helpers will be on hand to guide the process. Wednesday

Kenny Xu is  16-year-old sophomore at Princeton High School—and the author of the novel "Trisk: A New Breed of Sport."He will read from his book and discuss some challenges and triumphs of writing and publishing a 400+ page novel.  Princeton Public Library, Community Room, 7:30 p.m. 


Thursday

Pianist Behzod Abduraimov, 23, is a native of Uzbekistan who critics have described as "Rip-roaringly exciting" and "a gift from God." He won the 2009 London International Piano Competition, and then toured with the Sydney Symphony under Vladimir Ashkenazy. Tonight he will perform Beethoven's Sonata No. 12 in A-flat Major, Op. 26 and Sonata No. 23 in F Major, Op. 57, "Appassionata," Chopin's     Fantasia in F Minor, Op. 49, Liszt's Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude, S. 173/3 and Saint-Saens/Liszt/Horowitz Danse Macabre Op.40. Princeton University, Alexander Hall, Richardson Auditorium, 8 p.m. Pre-concert talk by Ruth Ochs begins at 7 p.m. 

Friday

Soprano Audra McDonald performs at McCarter Theatre. The star of Broadway, TV, movies, opera, and the concert stage won her fifth Tony Award for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, but that’s just one facet of a career that has included virtually every award and honor that the entertainment industry can convey.
