Four WWII Veterans From Brandywine Princeton Honored On Flag Day
The veterans received the Distinguished Service Medal during a ceremony held at the assisted living facility.
PRINCETON, NJ — Monday was a special day for four residents of Brandywine Living at Princeton. On Flag Day, the New Jersey Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs, Col. (ret) Walter Nall awarded the NJ Distinguished Service Medal to four World War II veterans who reside at the assisted living facility.
Those honored were WREN Kathleen DuHaime, 99; Technician Fifth Grade Robert J. Higgins, 95; Seaman First Class Stanley W. Tantum, 96 and Radioman Third Class Kirt H. Wedemayer, 95.
DuHaime served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service (the women’s branch of the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy) during WWII.

The veterans also received a letter from Gov. Phil Murphy. Present at the ceremony were Sen. Kip Bateman, Assemblymen Roy Freiman and Andrew Zwicker, and Princeton Mayor Mark Freda.
After the ceremony attendees enjoyed live entertainment with USO theme refreshments and a cake made especially for the ceremony.
