PRINCETON, NJ —A Hun School alumna and Bucks County native has been named Miss America 2020. Camille Schrier was crowned Miss America during the competition Thursday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

Schrier, now a pharmacy graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University, grew up competing, including while she was a student at The Hun School in Princeton, N.J.

Competing as Miss Virginia, Schrier edged out Georgia representative Victoria Hill.

Schrier won over the audience during the talent portion of the competition, when she did a scientific demonstration on hydrogen peroxide. The experiment, a catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, had a big finish as colorful foam burst out of the beakers.

She always had a dream to compete in Miss America, she said in a bio on the Hun School website.

However, there were two roadblocks that made her hesitant: “I didn’t like the idea of a swimsuit competition and I wasn’t a dancer,” she said.

When the Miss America competition revamped the competition to eliminate swimsuit competitions, Schrier decided to pursue her dream.

"I took it as a challenge to come up with a talent. I think many girls feel boxed in to create a talent that isn’t them. I could have done that but it would not have been authentic. I’m a scientist. This is what I do, and I wanted to show that to kids to get them excited.”
