Princeton Artist Lucy Graves McVicker Dies At 90
Graves McVicker, a longtime Princeton resident, was a renowned artist and founding member of Princeton Artists' Alliance.

PRINCETON, NJ — Award-winning local artist and founding member of Princeton Artists’ Alliance, Lucy Graves McVicker died on May 9. She was 90.
Graves McVicker grew up in West Chester, PA, and later on in a farm in Allegheny County. She received her B.A. from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, and married Charles Taggart McVicker in 1954.
The couple settled in Princeton in 1957.

Graves McVicker attended the Parsons School of Design in New York City. She won prizes in art shows sponsored by The American Watercolor Society, The New Jersey Watercolor Society, and The Garden State Watercolor Society.
A devout member of the Christian Science Church Graves McVicker’s “love of God was unending,” said the obituary published on Mather Hodge Funeral Home website. As a descendent of Captain Myles Standish, she was also a member of the Mayflower Society

“Lucy loved every person she met. She embraced everyone with a huge smile, a hug, and a look that said, I want to know more about you. She loved to teach art, and many of her students, including family members, will never forget her patient, gentle lessons. The loss of Lucy’s presence will be felt by family, friends, and many in the Princeton community,” said the obituary.
A private memorial service will be held this summer. Donations in her memory may be given to the New Jersey Audubon Society.
