Princeton Football Team Defeats Alabama In Recruiting Battle

Four-star quarterback Brevin White previously committed to Princeton, and has honored that commitment despite Alabama's late offer.

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton University football team has done something most teams haven’t been able to do over the past few years. It beat Alabama.

The Tigers claimed a victory over the Crimson Tide on the recruiting trail last week when highly touted quarterback Brevin White decided to honor his original commitment to the Ivy League school despite a scholarship offer from the reigning national champions that came in on Jan. 25, according to ESPN. Following the offer, White took a visit to Tuscaloosa the same weekend, but decided to stick with his original pick.

The four-star quarterback picked Princeton over a number of other Power 5 programs in July, telling CBS Sports that attending Princeton is a “once in a lifetime experience.” White will major in economics at Princeton, which has already put him in touch with some “high net worth individuals” who emphasized the value of an Ivy League education in the business world.

He is the No. 13 ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2018, according to Bleacher Report.

White isn’t the first football player to spurn the SEC for the Ivy League. In 2013, Chad Kanoff transferred from Vanderbilt to Princeton, according to SB Nation. In 2017, Kanoff had a record-setting season for the Tigers and was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year.
