Princeton Police To Begin Crackdown On Distracted Drivers
The enforcement will target unsafe practices on the road, in an attempt to increase traffic safety within and around Princeton, said police.
PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton Police Department will begin a two-week crackdown on distracted drivers from July 12.
Officers will be conducting enforcement operations to identify motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving such as utilizing a hand-held cell phone and sending text messages while driving.
According to Sgt. Thomas Murray of the Traffic Safety Bureau, approximately 80 percent of all Crash Investigation Reports handled by Princeton Police identify “Driver Inattention” and/or some other type of unsafe driving behavior as contributing to the crash.

The goal of this distracted driving enforcement campaign is to specifically target unsafe practices. The department is making an effort to increase traffic safety within and around Princeton.
According to the police, distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving. This includes talking or texting, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, adjusting the stereo, entertainment, or navigation system, and just about anything that takes away attention away from safe driving.
