The Week Ahead in Princeton

Looking for things to do in and around Princeton this week? Here are some highlights.

Monday

Sandor Ellis Katz, author of 'The Art of Fermentation: A Workshop," will speak at Labyrinth Books, 5 p.m. 

Martha Vaughn, author of 'Of Time and Place,' will have book signing. Vaughn has traveled the world, shooting in large cities, small villages, and little known, inaccessible regions. Often capturing the delicate balance between architecture and nature, Vaughn’s photographs concentrate on color and composition and the subtleties of light and shadow. Arts Council of Princeton, 5:30 to 8 p.m. 

Tuesday

Princeton Photography Club will host a discussion about photographers' rights with intellectual property attorney David Gold. Johnson Education Center at D&R Greenway Land Trust, 7:30 p.m.


Wednesday

CBC Business Networking Group. Enjoy a professional structured breakfast that is relaxed and pressure free, where local business leaders and entrepreneurs can network and share ideas, Congregation Beth Chaim, 7:30 a.m. 

The Arts Council of Princeton hosts a reading of a new play "Egyptian Song,"
following  follows the life of a young girl growing up in rural Egypt in the 1920s. Loosely based on the childhood of the legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, the play tackles social, cultural and political issues between the West and the Middle East that we continue to see in headlines. The play is written by ACP Artist-in-Residence and Princeton playwright James Christy. It will star Maulik Pancholy (30 RockWeeds) and Tala Ashe (Smash), and will be directed by Julliard fellow Michael Barakiva. Original music will be developed and performed by Pew Fellow Hanna Khoury. Arts Council of Princeton, 7 p.m. 

Westminster Conservatory of Music presents Holiday Chestnuts and Sing-a-long. Featuring “White Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” “The Christmas Song,” “Let is Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!” and Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus.” Free-will donations of non-perishable food will be accepted at the  door; contributions will be distributed to area food pantries. Westminster Choir College, Bristol Chapel, 7:30 p.m. 

Join the Masterwork Chorus as they ignite their signature holiday season with Handel's classic, Messiah.  Under the baton of  Music Director Andrew Megill, the chorus performs the complete work on the Perelman stage in Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, 8 p.m. 

Thursday

“Biological Threats: Preparedness and Responses”will be the topic of a presentation by Dr. Clifton R. Lacy, director of the University Center for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response in New Brunswick. He will highlight emerging and re-emerging biological threats of natural, accidental, and intentional origin and discuss preparedness initiatives and response plans. The Jewish Center of Princeton, 10 a.m. 

Friday

Westminster Community and Chamber choirs present 'Christmas Pops' with Philip Orr on piano. Devin Mariman conducts. Westminster Choir College, Bristol Chapel, 8 p.m. 

Nowell Sing We Clear celebrates the midwinter season with a pageant of religious- and pagan-inspired songs and stories from centuries-old British and North American traditions. The songs recount the Christmas story and detail customs and rituals which make up the 12 days following the return of the light at the winter solstice. Christ Congretation Church, 8:15 p.m.
