Don Bosco Prep Names New Head Football Coach

RAMSEY, NJ — Daniel Sabella, a state group championship-winning coach and a North Jersey Coach of the Year, is the newest head football coach of Don Bosco Prep.

Don Bosco announced Sabella's hiring Tuesday.

Sabella has a long history of wining.

He won the Non-Public Group 4 State Championship and was named North Jersey Coach of the Year in 2016 in his first year as coach of Paramus Catholic.

Sabella led Paramus Catholic to nine consecutive state playoff appearances and back-to-back state final games. He was named conference Coach of the Year nine times.

Sabella was head football coach at Ridgefield Park High School for the 2019 season. He was head coach at Paramus Catholic from 2016 to 2018.

"Coach Dan Sabella brings with him a record of successful leadership as a high school football coach, one who not only transforms athletic programs but above all transforms young men," said James Heuser, Don Bosco's president. "He has a history of developing in student-athletes the virtues of integrity, respect, loyalty, commitment, and faith. We are happy to welcome him to the Don Bosco Prep family."

Sabella's first head coaching position was at Bogota High School from 2001 to 2007. He coached at Paramus High School from 2007 until 2016, when he joined Paramus Catholic. His head coaching career record is 128-67.

"Coach Sabella brings a sense of discipline and structure that will impact our student-athletes well beyond the playing field," said Brian McAleer, Don Bosco's athletic director. "I know Coach Sabella will hit the ground running and being to form relationships with our student-athletes within the football program."

Sabella's predecessor, Mike Teel, resigned in January after just two seasons as Don Bosco's head coach.
