New Report Makes Dairy Shopping Easy

Many dairy cartons show beautiful scenes of cows grazing in meadows, when the reality of the conditions that their cows endure is far from that picturesque scene.

Many cows are raised in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). There are even a number of organic dairy brands that are guilty of this type of farming. Sometimes there are more than 15,000 cows in these CAFOs.

What the cows eat and how they are raised should matter. The Cornucopia Institute is a public interest group that supports sustainable and organic agriculture.

Organic milk sales have more than tripled from 2007 to 2015, while sales of conventional milk declined.

By in large, grass-fed organic milk is the best type of milk. Grass-fed milk is higher in many nutrients, including vitamin E, beta-carotene and omega-3 fats and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
