RANDOLPH, NJ — U.S. Congresswoman for NJ-11 Mikie Sherrill pushed this Wednesday for a number of projects, including affordable housing in Randolph, before a powerful budget committee.

Sherrill asked for $3 million for Morris Habitat for Humanity's largest affordable housing project to date in Randolph.

"In my district, they are housing those who may have lost everything during the pandemic," Sherrill said about the organization, adding that she volunteered with them last month.

The congresswoman explained that the projects she submitted for funding are geared towards helping ease the recovery from the pandemic, by providing services to people who were most affected by it — for example those whose housing security was affected by a job loss.

"These aren't the flashiest projects congress has ever funded, but they are often the most impactful," she said.

In what she called an "extremely competitive process," Sherrill was only able to submit 10 project requests. Those requests must have been from state or local governments, government-adjacent organizations, and nonprofits.
