5 Sites In NJ Where You Can Honor Veterans This Memorial Day
These sites honor those who gave their lives in defense of freedom and the United States.

Memorial Day is Monday. But it is much more than a day off of work and a chance to barbecue.
It is a a day of remembrance, and a chance to remember those police officers, servicemen and women, and veterans who gave their lives to protect the United States of America.
Here are five places you can visit on Memorial Day to pay respects to those who died defending freedom.

New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial, Holmdel
The memorial honors the 1,562 men and one woman from New Jersey who died during the Vietnam War. Also at the site are the U.S. War Dogs Memorial the Purple Heart Memorial, and the Gold Star Family Memorial.
Morristown National Historic Park, Morristown
Morristown National Historical Park commemorates the sites of General George Washington and the Continental army’s winter encampment of December 1779 to June 1780. The park also has a museum and library collection related to the encampments and George Washington, as well as items relating to pre- and post-Revolutionary America.

Mommouth Battlefield State Park, Manalapan
One of the largest battles of the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Mommouth, occurred here. The park features a visitors center and restored Revolutionary War farmhouse. Reenactments of the battle will be held June 16 and 17.
Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown
The cemetery is a contemporary memorial type with all grave markers flush at ground level. It covers 225 acres and was designed to accommodate 154,000 veterans and their family members. Approximately 13 burials occur each business day and the cemetery is visited by thousands of visitors each year.
Volunteer Or Visit A Veterans Affairs Hospital
The Voluntary Service Program at the Department of Veterans Affairs, New Jersey Health Care System has a wide variety of volunteer activities available. Volunteers provide ongoing support for a number of needs that help veterans receiving care. Volunteers are needed at both veterans affairs campuses, in East Orange and Lyons.
