The August Symphony Orchestra Presents "Classical Hollywood"
Free Online Event Features Classical Music in Films
The August Symphony Orchestra (TASO) will host a virtual event presenting a lively discussion and musical demonstration of classical music in popular films, to be held on Sunday, July 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. For access to the free event, simply register on the orchestra’s website: www.tasonj.org for the link to the program. The event will be interactive, allowing for comments and questions.
Join TASO music director Michael Avagliano for a guided tour through some of the surprising pieces and composers in popular Hollywood films. Members of the orchestra will play excerpts of music from Wagner, Strauss, Greig, Liszt and Holst - themes that will jog your memory and remind you of a spring morning, an outer space adventure and much more.
“Throughout film history, music by classical composers has been used over and over again by filmmakers and Hollywood studios to make their movies come alive,” said Michael Avagliano, music director of TASO. “This is a program for the whole family, and you’ll never hear the movies the same way again.”

He currently serves as music director for The August Symphony Orchestra, the Summit Symphony, and the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and is on faculty at Drew University.
“We want to continue the great musical experience The August Symphony Orchestra has provided for the past 15 years, offering an accessible way for classical orchestral music to be appreciated by all,” states Bob Whiteley, president of TASO. “Live concerts are still probably months away, but we hope this virtual program will give classical music fans a taste of what they’re missing, and we are proud to continue uninterrupted despite the circumstances.”
