Bergen County Cooling Centers Open Amid Heat Advisory
The heat index is expected to be between 95 to 100 degrees.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Three cooling centers have opened amid a heat advisory issued for North Jersey.
The heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. The heat index is expected to be between 95 to 100 degrees.
The following cooling centers are located at the following Bergen County locations:

- Southwest Senior Activity Center, 147 Hackensack St., East Rutherford, 201-935-8920
- Northwest Senior Activity Center, 46-50 Center St., Midland Park, 201-445-5690
- Bergen County Plaza, 1 Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack
The afternoon and early evening will be when the highest heat index values will occur. As a result, the heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in an air-conditioned room
- Stay out of the sun
- Check up on relatives and neighbors
- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside
- When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
- Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location
