Bergen County's COVID Cases: See Town-By-Town Updates

The coronavirus continues to have an impact on Bergen County, but things are looking up one year from the state's first case.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — New data has been released that shows the coronavirus continues to have an impact on Bergen County, but the state continues to make upward progress.

Bergen County reported 70,601 confirmed cases Friday, but for the third straight week, all of the Garden State except Atlantic County is out of the "red zone," according to federal officials.

The weekly State Profile Report, made in collaboration with the White House and other federal agencies, measures COVID-19 risk through metrics such as new cases per 100,000 people, percent changes in new cases and positivity rate.

School districts are beginning to roll out plans to return students into the building at a higher level, and state officials have reduced coronavirus restrictions in recent weeks.

For instance, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Feb. 22 that houses of worship could expand from 35 to 50 percent capacity. Murphy also suggested Feb. 25 that indoor-dining capacity will increase to 50 percent "sooner than later."

County Executive Jim Tedesco delivered the first virtual State of the County address this week, and discussed hope on the horizon.

"While we are not out of this yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel as cases begin to decrease and more vaccine needles reach the arms of our residents. When all is said and done, I know Bergen County will weather this storm because our community is stronger than any virus." Read more: Herd Immunity Priority Number 1 In Bergen County For 2021

Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ 5th), who represents a bulk of Bergen County, took to twitter to remember a difficult year on March 4, the anniversary of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the state and county.

"We still have a long way to go, but I remain incredibly optimistic," said Gottheimer. "Wear a mask. Stay safe. Watch out for your neighbors and loved ones."

"We're still all in this together," he added.
