Bergen Town First in State to Raise Legal Age to 21 for Buying Tobacco
More New Jersey municipalities could soon also raise the minimum age if a proposed bill is approved.

Englewood has become the first New Jersey municipality to raise the minimum age of tobacco sales to 21.
The city’s ordinance applies to cigarettes, cigars and e-ciggarettes, according to NorthJersey.com. Englewood is the first in the state to raise the minimum age since the legal age was changed from 18 to 19 in 2006, the report said.
New York City raised the legal age to 21 last year for purchasing tobacco products and Suffolk County in Long Island also has passed a similar measure.
