Storm Knocks Out Power, Downs Trees In Bergen And Passaic County

Thunderstorms swept across the state on Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of downed trees, hail and power outages.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Hundreds lost power and residents near Ridgewood and Paramus reported hail, downed tree limbs and heavy rain during afternoon thunderstorms which stretched into the evening across the state.

More than 27,000 were without power Monday afternoon, and PSE&G reported 386 active outages, and more than 16,000 affected customers after 5 p.m.

As of 4:49 p.m., thunderstorms across the area had produced up to an inch of rain, and flash flooding was either underway or expected, according to the National Weather Service.

In Ridgewood, one Twitter user reported larger-than pea sized hail, and shows wind damage including downed tree limbs.

Hail was also reported in Paramus and Teaneck.

In addition to the flash flood warning, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Bergen and Passaic County.

PSE&G reported 5,808 affected customers in Bergen County and 1,082 in Passaic, though none were reported in Wayne Township just before 6 p.m.

Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Paramus, Ridgewood and Teaneck were all affected, with 769 Teaneck residents affected by the store, according to PSE&G. Over 100 residents of Ridgewood and Parmus were also impacted.
