Francis Cangemi, Ridgewood Ophthalmologist, Died Friday

Cangemi, 74, was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club. He 'treated and bettered the lives of many.'

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Dr. Francis E. Cangemi, 74, a devoted ophthalmologist from Ridgewood, died Friday.

Cangemi was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross where he was captain of the golf team, his obituary states.

He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and established his own practice, Vitreo-Retinal Associates of New Jersey.

He was a member of Retinal Consultants and was on staff at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville and The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

His devotion to his family, friends, and patients "left lasting impressions with everyone he knew," the obituary states.

He is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Alyson and her husband Daniel; grandchildren Alex and Juliana; stepson Barry and his wife Shari and their children Zachary and Jared; siblings Mary Ann Svenning, Charles Cangemi, Paul Cangemi, Elizabeth Heller, Margaret Sullivan and John Cangemi and their spouses and children.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church, 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood at 10:30 a.m.

Donations in his memory can be donated to SCID, the Angels for Life Foundation.
