Glen Rock police received three new reports of fraudulent unemployment claims, and finished a residential burglary investigation.

3:01 PM – A resident of Gramercy Place reported identity theft. The resident stated that a fraudulent BB&T Bank account had been opened in his name in Whiteville, North Carolina. The resident stated that he had not opened the account and when he received mail from the bank regarding the account, he advised them of the identity theft. The detective bureau is investigating.

Burglary Investigation
The Glen Rock Police Department Detective Bureau completed an on-going investigation regarding a residential burglary that occurred on the 500 block of Maple Ave back on January 20, 2021. This past week, Det. Doney charged a 28-year-old male by the name of Christopher Lassiter of Newark, NJ with burglary and theft and a 19-year-old female by the name of Taina Peppers of Newark, NJ with conspiracy to commit burglary for their alleged roles in the January 20th burglary. Both parties were issued complaint summonses and were assigned court dates for their first appearances.

Fraudulent Unemployment Claim Reports Continue
During this past week, the Glen Rock Police Department received three additional reports from residents concerning fraudulent unemployment claims. In each case unknown actor(s) use their personal information to apply for unemployment. The detective bureau continues to receive ongoing complaints of this nature and is working with the NJ Division of Criminal Justice which is the lead investigating agency on fraudulent unemployment claims being filed throughout the state.
