05-17-2021
3:17 PM – The director of security for the Glen Rock Public Schools reported graffiti in the form of a swastika which was discovered in a boy’s bathroom at the Glen Rock Middle School. School officials were unable to provide a time frame in which this may have occurred. There are no known witnesses nor was any other evidence recovered at the scene. This matter has been classified as a bias incident and was reviewed by the Detective Bureau.

05-19-2021
8:58 PM – Patrols were dispatched to the 400 block of Maple Avenue near Clifton Place to investigate a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival they found a large group of people standing near a utility pole, who reported that a gray Dodge charger had hit the pole, backed up and then drove away with extensive front end damage and a flat tire. Officers were able to follow fresh rubber marks in the roadway along with detecting the odor of burnt rubber. The trail led them down Ackerman Avenue to Broad Street into Ridgewood and onto E. Ridgewood Ave.

A Ridgewood police officer on foot patrol in their central business district had observed a vehicle fitting the description drive past him. Glen Rock and Ridgewood officers searched the area and were able to locate the vehicle with help from a concerned citizen. The vehicle was found parked in the parking lot of the Kings shopping center at 112 N. Maple Ave. The vehicle owner, who lives in an adjacent apartment building, was subsequently located by the officers.
The vehicle owner admitted that he had been operating the vehicle on Maple Avenue when he swerved to avoid a fox and collided with the utility pole. He stated that he had intended to contact the police when returning to his residence but had not yet done so. His vehicle, a 2010 Dodge charger, was found to be in an unsafe condition and was towed from the Kings parking lot.
The driver, 49-year-old Ridgewood man, was issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, operating a vehicle in unsafe condition, driving with an expired license, and failure to report a motor vehicle accident.

Patrols were dispatched to five homes on Chadwick Place and Andover Terrace to investigate reports of multiple vehicles entered overnight. Investigation found that a total of six unlocked vehicles had been entered by unknown actor(s). Among the items stolen were wallets, cash, credit cards and personal ID. Detectives are currently investigating.
Motorists are reminded that it is never safe to leave your vehicle unlocked and unattended, even in your driveway at night. Never leave valuables, keys, or key fobs in your vehicles. Communities throughout North Jersey, including Glen Rock, have seen a steady increase in these types of incidents. Thieves are specifically targeting unlocked vehicles.

3:04 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported that an unknown individual attempted to apply for unemployment benefits using his identity. The Department of Labor was successfully able to block the attempt, and no benefits were received. The detective bureau continues to receive ongoing complaints of this nature and is working with the NJ Division of Criminal Justice which is the lead investigating agency on fraudulent unemployment claims being filed throughout the state.
