Gottheimer: Remove Trump By 'Whatever Legal Means Possible'

NJ Rep. Josh Gottheimer joins a chorus of politicians from the state in calling for the removal of President Donald Trump from office.

WASHINGTON, DC — New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer joined a chorus of his fellow congress members in calling for the removal of President Donald Trump after a mob of his supporters swarmed the Capitol building during a riot Wednesday. Five people have died, including a Capitol police officer, whose death is being investigated as a homicide.

Gottheimer, who spoke Thursday on two separate television programs, called the events of the day "heartbreaking," but made calls for unity as the country moves forward from the events, and the presidency of Trump.

He took to Twitter Wednesday night to again make those calls, but to add that, in moving forward, Trump must be removed from office.

"Now, more than ever, we need our nation to heal. In only thirteen days, with a new Administration, we will have that opportunity. But, we cannot ignore the actions of President Trump to obstruct our democracy, encourage violence, and threaten our security," he wrote.

"That is why he should be removed from office by whatever legal means possible. There must be accountability for one branch of government encouraging an attack on another, all in the name of undermining an election."

Articles of impeachment have been drafted by Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN), and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the 25th Amendment should be invoked to remove Trump from office, if not "Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment."

Another a resolution, drafted by Rep. Cori Bush (MO), seeks expel members of Congress "who have incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election."

New Jersey Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr., has signed onto that resolution, and also called for something similar in early December.
