Indoor Mask Mandate Remains At Glen Rock Schools

But students and staff will have the option to remove their masks when outside starting this week.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — Glen Rock students won't be allowed to remove their masks inside, but students and staff now have the option to take them off outside the school building.

The district updated their mask mandate following new guidance from Gov. Phil Murphy this week.

"Effective tomorrow, June 9th, 2021, all students and staff have the option to not wear a mask when outside. This change is based on Governor Murphy’s latest press conference where he stated that, 'school officials are empowered to relax masking among students and staff in their buildings given extreme weather conditions [and to] make the best decision for their buildings and communities,'" the district said, in a letter.

Though many school districts across the state have also given students and staff the option to shed their masks indoors during days of "excessive heat," Glen Rock school officials said they won't do that.

The reason for it is simple: ample air conditioning.

"Since all of our classrooms and educational spaces are air-conditioned, the indoor mask mandate will remain for all students and staff for the remainder of the school year."
