Major Rt. 3 Construction Set To Begin Friday Is Postponed
2 lanes were scheduled to be closed on the major highway, but the work has been postponed, the NJ Department of Transportation announced.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A construction project on Route 3 slated to begin Friday has been postponed.
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the delay Friday. A reschedule date was not provided. All lanes on Route 3 will remain open.
The $26.7 million project will improve safety and relieve congestion on the Ridge Road and Orient Way bridges over Route 3.

The project includes work on the Route 3 median and upgrades to the Polito Avenue and Rutherford Avenue intersection. Both bridges have been classified as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.
Being structurally deficient does not mean a bridge is unsafe.

The new bridges will be lengthened to allow for the addition of wider right shoulders on Route 3 in both directions, and the Route 3 westbound exit to Ridge Road will be extended to start before Orient Way.
