NEW JERSEY — A winter storm system is expected to hit New Jersey this week, eventually making way for a wintry mix of rain and even snow in some parts of the Garden State. Some parts of the state will get 50-mph winds.

No accumulation is expected, but temperatures will stick in the low 30s overnight Thursday.

Friday morning will bring more rain and some snow, but it'll eventually clear by Friday night. Low temperatures won't dissipate, however, and are expected to hover in the high 20s.

Strong winds are expected throughout the state, especially along the coast.

As the system moves to the east later on Thursday and into Thursday evening, an area of high pressure will be moving across southern Canada. This high will begin funneling colder air into the region. As this happens and precipitation continues to fall, the air will likely become cold enough for precipitation to mix with or change to snow in northern towns and cities. By Friday morning, as the colder air continues to extend southward, the rain in more areas could mix with or change to snow.

Residents will have a recent stretch of warm weather to thank for a lack of icy roads, as the warmer ground should offset major impacts.

"Cities like New York and Philadelphia are not expected to get any accumulation on the roads," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Babinski said.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the weekend, and the sun should come out on Saturday and stick around Sunday. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 48. On Sunday, expect a high near 59.

Spring-like temperatures will come around again at the beginning of next week, with highs predicted in the low 60s.
