Ridgewood Library, High School Partner for Summer Reading Initiative

Discussion groups at the library open to incoming 9th graders.

Ridgewood High School and the Ridgewood Public Library are teaming up to offer book discussions for incoming 9th graders over the summer.

"This joint offering will encourage students to read over the summer, help narrow the selection of books for students to choose from, and provide an opportunity for students to discuss literature with friends, upperclassmen mentors, and adults," the high school program guide stated.

Incoming 9th graders can voluntarily choose to read a book and participate in the program, or even read several listed books and have multiple discussions. There are a total of eight fiction and non-fiction books like Into Thin Air, The Fault in Our Stars, Monster, and Revolution.

Discussions will take place on July 16 and 18, as well as Aug. 20 and 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the library. Library volunteers and students will lead the discussions. There are no costs to participate.

"We believe this new partnership is a positive one for both organizations and will only benefit theincoming 9th grade students as they prepare for their high school career," the high school administration wrote.
