Ridgewood Invention Teams Advance as Finalists in the 2021 STEAM Tank Challenge
In its second year, the Applied Engineering Club has quickly gained momentum and generated significant student interest. Of the eighty-one students who have actively participated in the club this year, 60 members are participating in the STEAM Tank Challenge, which is a testament to their interest in innovation given the challenges of working in a remote environment. “The club has been so resourceful this pandemic year looking for opportunities and sharing their collective knowledge and resources to support each other," said RHS teacher John Wohner. The STEAM Tank Challenge was created and sponsored by The New Jersey School Boards Association and the United States Army to encourage innovation and inspire creativity in New Jersey’s public school students. This competition gives students the opportunity to identify a real-world problem and apply science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) to develop a solution. Special awards are presented for Innovative Use of Technology, Entrepreneurship Subject Matter Expert Collaboration, Creativity and the Exemplar Integration of the Arts, Societal, Social and Emotional Impact, Improvement to the Human Built Environment, and Sustainability. All of the team project videos can be viewed on the Super Science Saturday website during the month of March. Visit SuperScienceSaturday.org. The finalists (2020 and 2021) and their projects are listed below.
