Village to Further Study Assisted Living Facility Project

The Ridgewood Village Council is moving ahead with a developer's proposal to construct a six-story assisted living facility in the village downtown.

According to Mayor Paul Aronsohn, the council instructed Village Attorney Matt Rogers and Village Planner Blais Brancheau to further study Kensington's pitch to build the mixed-use development at the town-owned North Walnut Street parking lot. The proposed height, for instance, is higher than code allows for.

The plan calls for three floors of living space, two levels of public parking within the building (180 spaces), and 3,000 square feet of retail. Kensington would pay the town an estimated $300,000 a year in taxes as well as all remediation costs.

Rogers and Brancheau will need to determine the modifications required for a formal proposal, in addition to meeting zoning requirements of the redevelopment zone the property sits on, Aronsohn said.

Rogers said Kensington has concluded the possible construction would not impact the commercial properties fronting Oak Street, the mayor told Patch.

If the facility is ultimately constructed, it would eliminate the need for a multi-tiered chamber of commerce plan to build a parking garage at the site.
