Wear A Halloween Costume, Ice Skate For Free At American Dream

The mega-mall's ice rink will hold a special "Spooky Skate" Thursday to celebrate all things Halloween.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - It's shaping up to be a dark and gloomy Halloween, weatherize, but American Dream is offering a way to avoid letting the rain dampen your spirits.

On Thursday, the newly-opened mall's ice rink will host special Spooky Skate to celebrate all things Halloween, according to American Dream.

During the event, which is set to run from 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., guests can ice skate for free if they are wearing a "festive costume," the mall said.

For those not in costume, tickets can be purchased at the 19,000-square-foot rink.

  • 1-day – $12
  • Ages 3-10 – $8
  • Ages 2 and under – free
  • Skate rentals – $6
  • Helmets – free
  • Skate sharpening –$6

A Halloween-themed figure skating show will be performed at the rink hourly between 4 and 7 p.m.

There will also be trick-or-treating from 3 to 7 p.m. in the mall, with treats available throughout the common areas. Live DJs will also perform all day.

American Dream partially opened Friday, unveiling Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park and the ice rink. Other attractions, shopping and dining will follow over the next several months at the $5 billion mall.

DreamWorks Water Park is scheduled to open Nov. 27, followed by Big SNOW on Dec. 5.

"Spooky Skate" Costume Rules & Regulations, according to the mall:

  • Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
  • Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
  • Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
  • Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, American Dream unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.

For Guests 13 & Under:

  • Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.

For Guests 14 & Older

  • Masks of any kind may not be worn.
  • Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)
  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
  • Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
  • Acceptable accessories include; transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
  • All rules and regulations are subject to change without notice
