Bergen County Gym Trades Workouts for Turkeys to Feed Needy Families

Participants who donate a frozen turkey or other non-perishable items will be provided with a free Thanksgiving "damage control" workout.

The Lyndhurst-based “Be Fit BootCamps” at VIP Fitness Studio, a fitness boot camp for busy men and women, is teaming up with their clients to provide relief to needy families this holiday season. All campers who pre-register online and donate a frozen turkey or other non-perishable / unexpired items at the event will be provided with a free 45 minute Thanksgiving “damage control” workout on Thursday, Nov. 20.

In addition, first time participants who donate a frozen turkey will be eligible for a free eight sessions of the Be Fit BootCamps Fundamentals Program from Dec. 2 to Dec. 27. All turkeys and fixings will be donated to the Lyndhurst Health Department Food Pantry, which is run by the Women’s Club of Lyndhurst and Food Pantry Chairperson Diane Cichino.

Be Fit Boot Camps Founder and Head Trainer Tony Gomez, National Academy of Sports Medicine, CPT, is a firm believer in giving back to the Lyndhurst community. “With the current plight of the economy, it’s clear that we all really need to stick together and help each other out when we can. We have a really tight-knit community at our facility and they always go above and beyond in helping others,” Gomez said.

VIP Fitness Studio Co-Founders, Michael Amoroso and Joe Caprio, believe that no family should be left without a turkey for the Thanksgiving holiday. “A hot and fresh turkey is a basic American right that no family should be denied. Humbly, we will do everything in our power to make sure that we can ensure this right is exercised for as many needy local families as possible,” Caprio said.

The Turkey Day Boot Camp Workout is meant to burn lots of calories, deplete muscle glycogen and ramp up metabolism to allow participants to enjoy some of the indulgences of the holiday season in moderation without the guilt or the setbacks. Participants will also be encouraged to bring any special friends or family members who would also like to participate in the pre-feast activity.
