Crusaders Induct Seven Into Hall of Fame

Five former athletes and two lay-brothers will join the school's Hall of Fame on Sunday evening.

Tonight the Bergen Catholic community will welcome seven new members into the school Hall of Fame at The Fiesta in Wood-Ridge. 

The 16th Hall of Fame, which already includes 155 members, is sponsored by the Alumni Association.

Harry Carle, Class of 1985 (Athlete) –

Harry enjoyed an outstanding four-year career on the Crusaders’ cross country and track teams. He was a First-Team All-County selection four times and was an All-State cross country honoree in 1984. The Record selected Harry to its All-Decade cross country team for the 1980s. He won the 1984 County Meet of Champions cross country title and three other individual county titles on the track, and also holds six school records.

Br. Thomas Jude Jensen, C.F.C. (posthumous) –

Br. Jensen established himself as one of the most respected instructors in Bergen Catholic’s proud history during a stay that lasted almost one-quarter of a century. He taught several levels of Mathematics, as well as Religion and Latin, and was the coach of the J.V. baseball and basketball teams. The contributions of this highly-respected coach laid the ground work forthe outstanding success of the varsity teams of both programs during his association with them.

Tad Jones, Class of 1999 (Athlete) –

Tad is recognized as the most awarded bowler in school history. A four time First-Team All-County selection, he led B.C. to 10 different titles  (including three County championships). He is one of only ten bowlers to be selected to the Star Ledger’s All-Century Team. A standout on the baseball diamond as well, he earned Second-Team All-State honors and was named “Most Valuable Player” of the Bergen County Tournament after B.C. won its only County Championship in program history.

Br. Anton Joseph Lips, C.F.C.(Special) –

Br. Lips was a role model who was remembered best as someone who made a difference in his students’ lives, both in the classroom and outside school. He set an example for all to follow as a person, teacher, moderator, and Christian Brother during his term at Bergen Catholic. He came to B.C. in 1963 and spent five years teaching Math and Religion. Br. Lips also served as the Moderator of the Mathematics Club and varsity football team.

Matthew LoVecchio, Class of 2000 (Athlete)

Matt enjoyed a storied playing career on the football field and basketball court. A three-year starter and two-time All-State selection, he quarterbacked the nationally-ranked 1998 and 1999 football teams to an overall record of 22-1 and two State titles, while leading B.C. to an average of 42 points-per-game. An Honorable Mention selection on USAToday’s All-America team, he earned a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he started eight games as a “true” freshman.

Matthew Radoslovich, Class of 2001 (Athlete) –

Matt was a superb hockey, lacrosse, and soccer player for B.C., before going on to enjoy a fine collegiate and professional career on the ice. A four-year letterman, he led the hockey team to its first Tournament of Champions title in 2001, the season he was named the Star Ledger/ NJ Devils “New Jersey Player of the Year.” A four-year letterman and three time Hockey Eas tAll-Academic athlete at Boston University, he went on to play five years of professional hockey at the “AA” level.

Darren Rizzi, Class of 1988 (Athlete) –

Darren produced an outstanding varsity career that saw him start for two seasons in two sports. He was recently selected to the Record’s all-time B.C. football team as a receiver. He concluded his B.C. career with 69 receptions (a school record that stood for 22 years) and was also anAll-League outfielder for the baseball team. A two-time All-American receiver at Rhode Island, his coaching career led him to five colleges, and then to his current position as the Special Teams Coach ofthe Miami Dolphins.
