Oradell Veteran Remembered For Service To Country

Raymond Peter Sintel, 90, died in December. He served in the Pacific theater following the end of World War II.

ORADELL, NJ — A borough veteran who served in the Army after World War II was remembered at a ceremony Thursday, months after he died.

Raymond Peter Sintel, 90, died Dec. 28. A committal service was held at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

He was a graduate of East Rutherford High School and enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation in 1946. He served in the Pacific theater following the end of World War II.

After serving in the military, Sintel earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck.

Sintel worked at Becton Dickinson & Co. and Simon & Schuster, and other literary firms. He also taught night classes at Bloomfield College.

He married Joan Cherman in 1953. They remained married until her death in October 2014.

He was the middle child of seven siblings, Richard, Edward, Marie, Gloria, Irene, and Doris, all of whom, along with their spouses, predeceased him.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
