River Dell Beats Old Tappan In Overtime, Win First Championship Since 2007

The Golden Hawks beat the Golden Knights to win the North 1, Group 3 state championship.

ORADELL, N.J. — UPDATE: River Dell defeated Old Tappan Saturday to win the North 1, Group 3 state championship at MetLife Stadium.

The Golden Knights beat the Golden Hawks 26-20. It is their first title since 2007 and 10th in school history.

David Estevez scored the game-winning touchdown.

River Dell had 384 yards versus 340 for Old Tappan. The teams each had 19 first downs, but River Dell had 249 pass yards; Old Tappan had just 60.

Old Tappan and River Dell are still tied at 20 at the end of regulation. The game is going into overtime.

Alec Lanza runs it in four yards out for a touchdown to tie the game at 20 with less than three minutes to go in the third quarter.

Sal Debenedetto returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown with 4:51 left in the third. Old Tappan is leading 20-13.

Kevin Walker gets a sack on an Old Tappan third down. The game is still tied at 13.

Old Tappan tied it at 13 with a 16-yard touchdown run by James Kelly.

River Dell is back up on Oradell 13-7 after the Golden Hawks scored on a 15-yard touchdown run.

Old Tappan is up on River Dell 7-6 after scoring on an 84-yard drive.

River Dell lost a fumble driving down the field when Matt Monaghan coughed up the ball and Old Tappan recovered it.

The Golden Hawks are up 6-0 on Old Tappan in the first quarter of the North 1, Group 3 championship at MetLife Stadium.
