River Dell High School Girls and Boys Take Home State Sectional Championship Titles

On Friday and Saturday, in the wind, rain and cold, the River Dell High School Girls and Boys Track and Field Team battled it out with 19 other teams at the State Sectional Meet in Mahwah. Both the River Dell boys and girls won the State Sectional North 1, Group 2 Championship Titles.

The girls team pulled together this year to win the league championship, county relay championship, and now the State Sectional Championship for the first time since 2006. Their indoor record includes Bergen County Team of the Year, Bergen County Relay Champs and Big North Patriot Division Champs. 

Coach Mike Urso, Head Indoor Track Coach, was named Bergen County Coach of the Year as well as Big North Patriot Division Coach of the Year during the indoor track season.

River Dell Girls Track Team win was a team effort and here are their performances:

• Intermediate Hurdles- Paige Fernandez (2nd), Noreen Byrne (5th)
• 1600- Emily Croonquist (3rd)
• 4x800 - (1st) Paige Fernandez, Emily Croonquist, Kristen Choo, Maddie Bonavita
• Shot Put - Laura Oh (1st)
• Javelin - Payton Wagmeister (4th)
• Long Jump- Marina Reilly (2nd), Erin Hughes (6th)
• Pole Vault- Brigette Brindley (6th)
• HH- Noreen Byrne (3rd)
• 800- Emily Croonquist (3rd)
• 4x100- (2nd) Marina Reilly, Sam Schleiger, Nicole Burrowes, Erin Hughes
• 4x400- (2nd) Noreen Byrne, Emily Croonquist, Nicole Burrowes, Paige Fernandez
• Disc – Laura Oh (1st)
• Triple Jump- Marina Reilly (2nd), Madison Smith (5th)

The boys win was also a team effort and their performances are as follows:

• Intermediat Hurdles- Christian DeSanctis (1st), Alexandro Capote (6th)
• 100m- Ryan Oellermann (3rd)
• 400m- Zach Hubner (1st)
• 4x800- (1st) Colin Daly, Will Daly, Chris VanDeWeghe, Tim Olson
• Disc- Andrew Tummino (3rd), Paul Zaukas (6th)
• High Jump- Brandon Jurasin (2nd)
• High Hurdles- Christian DeSanctis- (3rd), Capote (6th)
• 4x100- (2nd) Zach Hubner, Ryan Oellermann, Eric King, Zak Bousada
• 200m- Zach Hubner (3rd)
• 4x400- (1st) Christian Desanctis, Ryan Oellermann, Ryan Zaccaria, Zach Hubner
• Shot Put- Austin Berninger (1st), Andrew Tummino (2nd)
• Javelin- Shane DiMasso (5th)
• Pole Vault- Calvin Hartman (3rd)

18 girls and 20 boys will be competing this weekend at the State Groups Championship meet.
