River Edge Students Receive National Merit Scholarships

The students might go into anesthesiology and software engineering for their careers.

RIVER EDGE, NJ — Two borough students have received a corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Tuesday.

Jennifer Kong and Haneul Shin are students at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. They both received the National Merit Mary E. Beyerle Scholarship.

Shin wants to go into software engineering while might go into anesthesiology for their respective careers.

The Mary E. Beyerle Scholarship is awarded to students from Maryland, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania through a trust. It is one of 1,000 scholarships awarded to National Merit Scholarship finalists that are financed by 160 companies, businesses, and foundations. Winners are selected based on the academic achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in college.

Students are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT.
