Sidewalk Dining May Be Voted Upon at River Edge Mayor and Council Meeting

The River Edge Mayor and Council will be holding its regular public meeting on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Borough Hall. On the agenda is the second reading of an ordinance to provide for open air cafes/sidewalk dining in River Edge.  

Introduced by Councilwoman Kathleen Murphy, the ordinance would include a permit for outside dining, which council seemed to agree would be an annual renewable charge of approximately $200. The ordinance would also carry a stipulation that outdoor dining be confined to run between April 15 through Nov. 30.

Changes such as allowing no outdoor dining near a parking lot or driveway unless a buffer is installed to protect the diners and that all tables and chairs not tethered be moved inside after the restaurant has closed every night were suggested during the introduction.
