St. Joseph's Augie Hoffmann Joins Rutgers Coaching Staff

'He has a proven track record of developing elite talent both on and off the field,' said head coach Greg Schiano.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Another Bergen County native and championship-winning coach has joined Greg Schiano's staff at Rutgers University.

Augie Hoffman, the head coach of the perennial powerhouse St. Joseph Regional High School, will serve on Schiano's offensive staff. His exact role was not announced by Rutgers. He joins former Bergen Catholic football coach Nunzio Campanile on Schiano's staff.

"Augie is one of the most respected coaches in New Jersey," Schiano said in a statement. "As a leader of one of the top programs in the state, he has a proven track record of developing elite talent both on and off the field."

Hoffman, 38, is a Park Ridge native. He was an assistant varsity coach and coached the freshmen team at St. Joseph's from 2010-13. He became head varsity coach in 2014 after legendary head coach Tony Karcich retired.

Hoffman had a 50-19 record during his six seasons leading the Green Knights, winning two Non-Public Group 4 state sectional titles in 2016 and 2018. He appeared in another two state sectional championship games.

Hoffman is an alumnus of St. Joseph's and had great success on the field there and at collegiate alma mater, Boston College. He was named the 15th-best offensive lineman in the country and was a consensus first team all-state selection.

Hoffman was a four-time letter winner, first team All-Big East guard in 2003, and was team captain his senior season. He also earned Academic All-District I honors in 2003 and was named to the Big East All-Academic Football Team. He was graduated from Boston College in 2004. He has a wife, Drew, and two children, Augie and Domenic.

Hoffman spent the 2006 NFL season with the New Orleans Saints.

Hoffman is the latest Bergen County native to be hired by Rutgers, following Schiano's hiring in December.
