2 Scotch Plains, Fanwood Restaurants Allegedly Broke COVID Rules

A total of 5 bars and restaurants in Union County, including in Scotch Plains and Fanwood, face possible penalties amid the pandemic.

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Two restaurants in Scotch Plains and Fanwood were cited within the past month for allegedly violating New Jersey's coronavirus executive orders and could face possible penalties.

The Stage House Tavern in Scotch Plains and Sheelen's Crossing in Fanwood both were among the 33 bars and restaurants in New Jersey to be cited for compliance issues by the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).

The 33 businesses, including the Scotch Plains and Fanwood restaurants, are found to be in violation of Gov. Phil Murphy's order to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

El Chingon Tex-Mex Restaurant in Union and Patty's Place also in Union were also on the list.

The Black Diamond Billiards in Union was also cited four times in February for not enforcing the use of face coverings and maintaining social distancing. The pool hall recently was cited for breaking COVID rules on Super Bowl Sunday.

Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal has emphasized that the state will continue to target establishments that break the law and do little to prevent the virus from spreading – even as the number of vaccinations continues to grow and New Jersey's COVID cases continue to drop.
