Attempted Burglary At Scotch Plains Gas Station

Scotch Plains Police also reported two residents being scammed in a fraud.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — An attempted burglary at a Scotch Plains gas station was among the events reported last week in Scotch Plains, according to the police blotter.

On April 25, an employee at the Exxon gas station at 1800 Route 22 came into work in the early morning hours. The employee went into a back office and turned the lights on after hearing loud banging, said police.

The person fled the area Route 22 eastbound in a white van. The attempted burglary remains under investigation.

On April 19: A resident on Raritan Road reported someone fraudulently opened cell phone accounts in their name.

On April 20: Officers responded to the Rita’s Italian Ice at 111 Terrill Rd. on a report of an unwanted man on the premise. During the investigation Eric E. Pringle, 49, of Scotch Plains was arrested and charged with harassment and disorderly conduct by Patrolman Andrew Gitto. Pringle was taken to headquarters and processed.

On April 21: A resident on Union Avenue reported a fraud. The resident received a call from someone claiming they were from Amazon. The resident gave personal information to them and immediately had several thousand dollars removed from a bank account.

On April 22: A resident on Riga Court reported a fraud. The resident was contacted by someone claiming to be from Immigration who stated the resident had a warrant for their arrest. The resident transferred money to the person to satisfy the warrant before realizing that this was a scam.

On April 24: Christopher J. Eckerson, 25 of Fanwood was arrested for driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a breath test during a single-vehicle accident investigation conducted by Patrolman Mike Baltazar. Eckerson was transported to headquarters and processed.

On April 24: Officers responded to a home in the 1900 block of Prospect Avenue on a report of juveniles trespassing on an abandoned property. Upon arrival officers found two juveniles in the rear yard tampering with a window. It was determined that the two had gained entry to the premise and removed numerous items. The juveniles were taken into protective custody and their parents responded to the scene. They were taken to headquarters by their parents for further investigation.

On April 24: A resident on Swans Mill Lane reported the theft of money from the home.
