Cat Stuck In Tree Rescued By Fanwood Firefighters, Police

Izzy the cat had climbed more than 50 feet up a tree outside 225 North Ave.​ and stayed there.

FANWOOD, NJ — Izzie the cat, who was stuck more than 50 feet high in a tree, was rescued Thursday by Fanwood Firefighters.

Owners Barbara and Jim Vierschilling got worried when Izzy climbed more than 50 feet up a tree outside 225 North Ave. and stayed there, according to Tom Kranz, spokesman for Fanwood.

The Vierschillings called 911 and Fanwood Police and Firefighters came out.

Two firefighters climbed a ladder to get Izzie, who was none too pleased, said Kranz.

The firefighters were able to gently remove Izzie from his perch, then drop him down for a soft landing into a blanket held by more firefighters and police officers.

"We are so grateful for your amazing rescue of Izzie," wrote the Vierschillings to the rescuers in a thank you note.
