Congregation Beth Israel Prepares Gift Bags for Purim
Scotch Plains synagogue distributes Purim treats to congregants and local seniors
On Wednesday, February 21, volunteers from the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains prepared gift bags with masks, noisemakers, treats and traditional hamentashen cookies to be delivered to the entire congregation before the Jewish holiday of Purim. Sixth and seventh-grade students in Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School also participated in this Purim mitzvah (good deed) by helping to assemble the bags. In keeping with the synagogue’s efforts to go green, this year’s gift bags featured reusable wine totes imprinted with Congregation Beth Israel’s logo.
Congregation Beth Israel’s Sisterhood also donated Purim gift bags and additional pounds of hamentashen to residents of AristaCare at Cedar Oaks, a nursing home in South Plainfield, and to the senior program at the JCC of Central NJ in Scotch Plains.
