Convicted: Union County Cop With HIV Had Sex With Two Women Without Revealing Status

The former Police Captain and head of a narcotics and vice bureau will serve 364 days in prison.

A retired Plainfield Police Captain will serve 364 days in the County Jail for having sex with two Somerset County women without revealing that he was in fact HIV positive.

Charles Martina, 67, will also have to pay for the victims’ out of pocket medical expenses for psychological counseling and HIV/AIDS testing, MyCentralJersey.com reports. He was charged with two counts of a diseased person committing an act of sexual penetration.

Martina previously served as the head of the Plainfield Police Department’s narcotics and vice bureau.

The first victim, a 45-year-old North Plainfield woman, stated that she had a relationship with Martina from May of 2008 to January of 2011, according to NJ.com.

The 61-year-old Bernards victim was involved with Martina from February to August of 2011. Both victims stated that Martina did not disclose his HIV status, putting their health at risk.

Martina was originally charged in 2011 and faced up to 10 years in prison, according to NJ.com. The North Plainfield man will also serve three years probation after he is released from prison.
