Fanwood Firefighters Battle Blaze In Middle Of The Night

The fire consumed a home on N. Martine Avenue and damaged a neighboring home as well.

FANWOOD, NJ — A fire erupted in the middle of the night at a Fanwood home on Tuesday.

Just before midnight on Tuesday, the Fanwood Fire Department went to the fire at a home at 244 N. Martine Avenue at Portland Avenue.

With the help of the Scotch Plains and Westfield Fire Departments, the major fire was knocked down within 45 minutes and the fire was declared under control shortly after 1 a.m., according to Tom Kranz, spokesman for Fanwood.

"Quick work by firefighters helped save the house next door, which suffered some exterior damage," said Kranz.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. It is unclear if anyone was home at the time of the fire.

The Fanwood Rescue Squad, Mountainside Rescue Squad and Union County EMS also came out to help.
