Maintaining the residential character of Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains Master Plan provides our land use boards with the goals and objectives of development in town

The 2001 Scotch Plains Master Plan sets forth the goals and objectives of development in our town. The 2016 Master Plan re-examination report affirms the goal of preserving the established residential character of the township and that any development be achieved in a manner that may improve environmental quality, lessen flooding, avoid traffic congestion and promote proper circulation. The Master Plan's central theme is to "continue to be a predominantly single-family residential community." Lastly, the Master Plan provides that "commercial development should NOT be encouraged in established residential neighborhoods." These goals and objectives should be zealously protected by all of us.
