KENILWORTH, NJ — A Newark man was found hiding in the Rahway River following a chase with police in a stolen car on Tuesday, according to police.

On Tuesday at 4:31 p.m., Kenilworth Patrolman Brett Byron was near Boulevard and Wilshire Drive when he saw a 2005 Ford Econoline Van speeding, said Kenilworth Det. Sgt. Michael Scanielo.

Byron tried to pull the van over but it turned onto a number of backstreets trying to get away from the officer, said Scanielo.

A number of officers from Kenilworth, Cranford, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County searched the woods for about an hour before Cranford Police spotted Serranoingles in the marsh near Venetia Ave in Cranford, said Scanielo.
