Man Killed By Train In Union County

The man was fatally hit by a Raritan Valley Line train on Monday near the Union station, according to NJ Transit.

UNION, NJ — A man was fatally hit by a train on Monday in Union County.

Just after 3 p.m., NJ Transit's Raritan Valley Line train 5179, which had left from Penn Station New York and was on its way High Bridge Station, hit and fatally injured an adult man about 2 and a half miles east of Union Station, said NJ Transit spokesman Everett Merrill.

There were no injuries reported to the about 75 customers or the crew on board the train at the time, said Merrill.

Raritan Valley Line service was briefly suspended between Cranford Station and Newark Penn Station but has since resumed. Customers were accommodated by a substitute bus service.

The identity of the man has not been released yet.
