Masks 'Optional' For Scotch Plains-Fanwood Students Due To Heat
"If breathing is difficult at any time or in any location, due to excessive heat, or any other reason the mask can be removed."
SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — As temperatures rise, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Regional Schools will be relaxing their face mask policy for students.
"Masks are optional for students, staff, and faculty in our non-air-conditioned buildings and spaces for the remainder of the school year. If breathing is difficult at any time or in any location, due to excessive heat, or any other reason the mask can be removed," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joan Mast.
The decision went into effect on Tuesday following a tweet from Gov. Phil Murphy saying districts can make that decision in cases of extreme heat.
